James Washington Carpenter of Winchester, Massachusetts, is searching for information about his mother, Lucy Redman, and three of her children, Mary, Francis, and Amos.
The family was formerly enslaved by Miss Betsey Fouch of Middlebury, Virginia. Lucy came to Washington, D.C. in 1865, and James last heard from her in 1867, when Lucy talked about going to visit her brother, John Redman, in Pennsylvania. Lucy has a sister named Rebecca Domino or Dunmore who lived with Mr. James Biggins, a grocer.
Information is directed to W. H. Gunnison, Sixth Auditor's Office, Washington, D.C.
