Clara Williams searching for her husband
Westville Miss Jan [[unknown symbol]] 1/68
Mr. Powel
I left Mr Flairchilds in Dec last with the expectation that my husband (Clark Williams who was also employed by Mr Fl. last year) would come for me and my children the ensuing week he told me that he was going right off to secure a home for us the result has been that I am now here in an out house and not able to get away and am suffering in consequence of not knowing what to do and having my children on my hands when I could put them out for the present year and get something to make me comfortable until I am able to work again -- my babe is just five days old -- you had his brother Jo hired last year. [strikethrough] I [strikethrough] And I thought perhaps by writing this that through Jo; Clark might hear of my condition and come right away or say if he does not intend to come and then I can get along someway
Please say to Mr. Flairchild that I expect to return as soon as I can for my things and to have a settlement for my wages -- had I known what I now do I would not have come down until Feb -- show this to Clark if he is there and if you know any thing about his not coming as if he has left the county please write to a poor suffering negro anything you know concerning this husband who has treated me worse than a dog and you will oblige.
Clara Williams
PS direct your letter in case of Mr Fenn he had my children hired last year and will send it to me
