Sir Violet Windly a colored woman represents that John Cherry living within a mile of Williamston has her daughter Virginia a girl of 10 years of age in his custody. Violet alleges that her daughter was apprenticed to Cherry while she (Violet) was still living with him without her consent. She desires to have her daughter restored to her and I have to request that you will investigate the case and if the child is illegally bound that you annul the apprenticeship and return her to her Mother at this place.
