GOLIAD, TEX., Nov. 19, 1894
I desire to find my people. I was
born in Rowan County, North
Carolina, five miles from Maxville
and twelve miles from Saulsbury.
My mother’s name was Hannah
Hellard; my father’s, Jack Hellard;
brother was named John; sisters
were Flora and Jency. Mother
married again to a man named
Benjamin Garner. She had chil-
dren by him named Ben, Milas,
Calvern, and Lucy. Mother and
father belonged to George and
Kate Hellard. Flora fell heir to
Jessie Hellard. Jency was sold
out of the family and bought by
Douglas Haden. Lucy was sold
[Page 2]
and bought in by Catherine Hel-
lard, who married John Keller.
Mother was sold and bought in by
the old Lady Hellard. At Mrs.
Hellard’s death mother fell heir to
her young Mrs. Nancy Tar, who
married George Tar. John was
bought by Wm. Golden, and
Golden sold John to a speculator
named Bob Huay. I was bought
by Alla Bam Bill Haden, a specu
lator, who brought me to Texas.
As near as I can remember I left
mother in 1837. My name then
was Diana Hellard. It is now
Diana Johnson. Any information
will be thankfully received.
Address,
MRS. DIANA JOHNSON
Goliad, Goliad County, Texas.
